The Ofishl fin system first came about shortly after
inventor Mel Ross retired from forty years of glassing
and surfboard manufacture. For years Mel had
struggled with the industry standard of installing fin
systems after glassing. With his glassing experience,
Mel knew that any system intalled this way is
vulnerable to leaks and damage to the laminate. |

If a fin system could be designed, which went in before glassing it would bond better with the foam blank, seal better in the skin and be stronger than any after glass system. So Mel set about inventing one. The result is a fin system that is easy to install, simple and stronger than any removable fin system on the market. |

From this simple but perceptive idea, Ofishl has grown into a company with
global sales and a reputation for quality products. Surfers can now purchase
Ofishl fin systems just about anywhere there is surf. Ofishl Australia began
trading in 1997 after travelling soul surfer, Alastair Annandale came across
the system whilst touring California and decided that Australia had to have it.
Initially, Alastair sold fins from his beachside apartment in Perth, WA.

After three years he realized that he had to be on the east coast to reach the
widest range of surfers and surfboard manufacturers, and so pulled up stumps
to start again in Byron Bay in late 1999. Since the big move to Byron, Ofishl in
USA and Australia have been experimenting with new and better fin templates and materials. After much investment of time and money Ofishl Australia is now manufacturing in Queensland. |
